This winter it’s all about the ‘visible’ sock. This kind of sock is a statement piece and highly practical for keeping those tootsies warm. The trend is all about being daring - bright colours, patterns and chunky woollen socks will give your outfit an extra edge.
Here we outline a few different ways for you to embrace the sock, but the most important thing to remember is to have fun with it. Don’t be afraid to have a play around with different looks. Try a few different options and see what you like best. You’d be surprised how many different looks you can create!
Styling the visible sock
1. High socks and boots
This trend has been around for a while now and doesn’t look like it’s going away anytime soon. The great thing about this look is that you can work it with bare legs, tights or even jeans/pants underneath. You want to find some socks that are higher than your boots and then fold/scrunch them down so they’re still visible at the top.

2. With heels
Socks and heels are surprisingly easy to wear and you can pick some to suit practically any outfit. Lace and sheer socks are great for an evening look, while you can also style a more casual outfit with some simple cotton socks. Some prefer to style with only closed-toe shoes, but I think they look great with heels of any kind. Just make sure the socks don’t have holes at the ends - peeping socks are fine, peeping toes not so much.

3. With flats/brogues
Little ankle-grazing or short socks are perfect with these. Thinner fabrics are going to look better here (so your feet don’t look like they’re being swallowed) and feel free to go crazy with different colours and patterns. A simple bright-coloured sock can transform an otherwise dull outfit.

4. With ankle boots
You’ll ideally want a mid-length sock for this look. One which you can fold/scrunch down to sit above the boot, but not so long that you look like you’re wearing leg warmers. This is where you can opt for a thicker, woollen sock, but likewise a thinner more elegant sock works a treat too.
